Fan or Not

I have ripped this post off Brooke's blog 'cos its an ace idea and I like stealing other peoples ace ideas.

The deal is to list things I am a fan of, and then not so much.

Lets go:

I am a Fan of Ben Afleck directed films.

I saw Argo on the weekend and I loved it. The man is a great film maker. Argo is a slow burn and by the closing scene I was gripping the sides of my chair. I love modern politics so the story behind Argo was interesting to me .... but its a great drama regardless of your interest in geopolitics etc. But I am going to go on record and say: as fab as Argo is - its no  The Town.
The Town is hands down the best of Mr Afleck's work - and he has a way better hair cut in The Town than the 70's shag of Argo.

Not a fan of the 70's shag

Mos def a fan of both Ben and Jeremy

I am a fan of Generation Kill

This TV Series was made by the peeps who made The Wire ( I am a fan of that too). Generation Kill is derived from the book  written by  journalist Evan Wright, who was embedded with a group of Marines during the first assault on Baghdad in 2003. The series has some of the best dialogue I have watched on TV,  second only to The Wire.  If you liked the Hurt Locker (or The Wire) you would probably enjoy Generation Kill. Be warned the Marines have no handle on political correctness (I was a fan of that too).

I am a fan of The Gaslight Anthem's new album

I was introduced to TGA by my mate Bruce Springsteen. Both hail from New Jersey and sing a lot about the human condition. This is TGA 4th Album and its making a bit of a splash in Oz. Maybe they will tour here and maybe I will drag Dave along to see them... stranger things have happened.

OK as I only seem to be a fan of  American pop culture perhaps its best I move on to what I am not a fan of.

I am NOT a fan of Lame School Photos

Check out this shocker! Both Riley and Lucy's school pics were crapoloa this year. I have no idea what they were both doing to their hair but I am pretty sure they never left the house with the tragic hairdo's both were sporting for the $50 money shot.

I am NOT a fan of Sunrise at 5.15am. Why is Qld so backwards? The rest of Australia can cope with daylight savings and yet here in backwardsville we have sunrise at 5.15am and sunset at 6.30ish. SO DUMB. It would be a dream come true to have sunset at 7.30pm ... even for just part of the year.

I am NOT a fan of Sharing my perfume.
Because I am thick, I could not work out why all my perfume was disappearing. When I caught Lulu in the act  of using my Chanel like deodorant ... the penny dropped. I am also not a fan of choosing a new scent so please tell me WHAT'S YOUR FAVOURITE PERFUME? I love Issey Miyake and Ralph Lauren Romance ... but I would also love something new and different ... so leave me a comment!

and here endeth the whinging. Tell me what are you a fan of (or Not)?

Soundtrack to Summer

School starts next week and  reality and will kick in for shizzle :-(
I wrote this post after New Year but had a bit of trouble posting it. Here's goes.

Being home this Christmas and New Year meant we had days of relaxed down time. No school, no schedule, no work, no rushing ... it was so laid back and so relaxing. We all watched heaps of TV and listened to new music and I have had the following on high rotation ever since ... they are all my new faves.

I really like country pop and The Band Perry are certainly that. I love all of this album and hopefully FM radio don't discover it and kill it. Hello Lady Antebellum.

Simple Plan's latest song is Summer Paradise and it was the Brooks Summer Anthem. The film clip is a homage to all things Australia: QANTAS, Sydney Harbour, the Opera House, Vegemite, Emus, Koalas and Aussie Flags ...  strewth what's not to love!

Taylor Swift new song "Ours" is so catchy and like all her music very easy to listen to.
So don't you worry your pretty little mind
People throw rocks at things that shine
And life makes love look hard
The stakes are high, the water's rough
But this love is ours

The above music clip features my other summer addiction. Did you pick it? See below.

David gave me Season 1-3 of Friday Night Lights for Christmas and when I say gave I mean I bought them in November and watched them relentlessly from Christmas Eve onwards.

I could  wax lyrical about the compelling story arc or  the fabulous script writing  or make biting social commentary about the non fiction book  this series is based on reflecting the social mores of small town America... Yeah I could do that.

Or I could just tell you Friday Night Lights has Zach Gilford in it so run don't walk to watch it.

Oh please ... you are all young fit and beautiful !

So your turn. New music discovered? New TV Shows or movies? I have to find new things to keep me amused seeing as Season 4 and 5 of FNL wont be available in Oz for years!

No Retreat Baby No Surrender

I love the Boss. I have loved him ever since I heard this Album ... on vinyl 'cos I'm old school and just old.

Back in the day when I looked like this and was in Year 8 (bring back any memories Nicolee?) I use to babysit for a young groovy couple who had this album. We would crank it up in their lounge room and dance trying not to jump around too much on the wood floors so as not to bump the needle and scratch the record.

I was young and groovy myself No? ... NO!!!

The Boss has seen me through some pivital ages and stages of my life. As a teenager I remember going to Bali and buying all of his back catalogue on cassette and spending the whole trip with my Sony Walkman headphones attached to my ears... good times (for me not my Mother who spent the whole trip yelling at me).

Prophetically titled album

Needless to say I was thrilled to get the DVD of Bruce and the Band playing live in London's Hyde Park.
London Calling is a rocking good watch and listen. The Boss is still wearing the jersey boy rocker well. He is gorgeous and I am slightly alarmed that he is 60. He doesn't act it.
The set list is chockers with classics like B.T.R and Dancing in the Dark whilst having some slower more soulful and less well known numbers.
Two of my favourites are No Surrender which is co sung with Brian Fallon from Gaslight Anthem (had to google it ... they are punk ... sort of) and The River.

Half the joy of watching these two was how awkward Brian Fallon looked on stage ... brilliant voice dodgy wardrobe choice.

The River was performed at the Glastonbury Festival.

The Boss had me at the first rip of the harmonica. The clip is amazing and features a very sweaty and buff Bruce with steam coming off him singing his guts out about the lost dreams of youth ... or what happens when you get a Union Card and a Wedding Coat for your 19th birthday....

If you love the Boss you will love London Calling ... run don't walk to see it.

160GB Baby

The good thing about being shallow is that sometimes money does buy you a little bit of happiness. After many months without a working ipod I am now the proud owner of a music machine I probably will never fill up (but will looove every minute of trying to). This little sliver of black and silver metal has giving me a very happy heart (and ears).

Wow I could never be a hand model...
So the first album that went onto my new baby was
Mark Sholtez - The distance between two truths. It's a winner.
So help a sister out (to fill up 160GB) Whats on your ipod?
